Class Descriptions

Taoist Yoga

This unique form of yoga, developed by Taoist master Paulie Zink, draws from the ancient tradition of Taoist Yoga native to China. Influenced in part by traditional Hatha yoga, this style is especially good for beginners. Relaxation and comfort in postures, rather than strength and precision, is emphasized at the beginning level. You will be encouraged to find your own yoga in a fun, accepting, and informal atmosphere. As you progress, you will gradually develop a foundation of flexibility and an awareness of the body and its energetic states. Advanced postures and graceful flowing movements will slowly be added and mastered.

Good Morning Easy Flow

In this beginning level class, we focus on the gentle flowing circular movements that are the foundation of Taoist Yoga. This is not a vigorous, athletic flow class. Movements are slow, restorative and easily adjusted to provide the right amount of challenge for each individual. As you progress, you will be guided and encouraged to use your creativity to develop your own unique flow sequences to address the daily needs of your mind, body and spirit.

Relaxed Floor Work

In this class we work in depth with seated postures to gradually build a foundation of flexibility and strength. We will focus regularly on hamstrings, spine, hips, upper body strength and balance. This relaxing class is an excellent way to end a busy day.

Yoga for Endocrine Health

Yoga postures energize and enhance endocrine function. We can enhance this aspect of yoga practice through the use of gentle flow sequences, meditations, relaxation and breathing techniques designed to assist the body in healing, nurturing and balancing our hormonal system. When we relax and focus our attention on the areas of the body that require assistance, we activate our natural healing response.  Symptoms of menopause and PMS respond especially well to this technique.

Beginning Chi Kung (Qigong)*

Chi Kung is a time honored Chinese health practice that dates from the second century C.E. When practiced daily, chi kung maintains physical vigor and mental clarity and restores harmony to the natural rhythms and functions of the body to sustain good health.

You will learn gentle movements and breathing techniques to gradually build lung capacity and stamina, improve circulation, balance, muscle tone and reduce stress. You will be introduced to the principles of the five elements used in Chinese medicine (Earth, Metal, Water, Wood and Fire). You will learn to manifest the energetic qualities of each element in the body as you explore the simple, elegant movements of the Five Element Walk and the playful, health affirming rhythms of the Five Animal Frolics. Wear comfortable loose fitting clothing.

Taoist Yoga/Chi Kung (Qigong)

In this combination class, we expand our beginning Taoist Yoga work to include advanced transitions between postures, flowing chi kung sequences, and standing meditations. This is a fun and active class excellent for all skill levels.

Healing Yoga/Medical Chi Kung (Qigong)

If you are recovering from illness or living with a chronic condition, this class can help your body renew and awaken its innate healing resources. Gentle stretches are combined with soft chi kung movements and focused breathing exercises. You will learn to adjust your practice to provide for the unique needs of your body. If you are feeling tired, stiff, achy, fatigued, depressed its okay. Come anyway. Just come and let this class refresh, relax and rejuvenate your body and spirit.

Advanced Chi Kung (Qigong)*

This course is a continuation of the Beginners Chi Kung course.  It is designed to familiarize a beginning student with the principles necessary to begin a life long practice of this most beneficial and transformative art. We will discuss the basics of guarding the Three Treasures of health, explore the yin and yang properties of each element, and practice visualizations and breathing meditations designed to cultivate vital life force, calm the mind, and enhance self-awareness.  It is recommended that students take Beginning Chi Kung before attending this course, but it is not required. Wear comfortable loose fitting clothing.

*Both chi kung courses can be taken more than once and/or out of sequence.

Class Schedule & Descriptions

"Whatever we do in our bodies is accordingly never isolated from the rest of the world, and the world is part of who we are. Cultivating the body thus creates strong life in the person, harmony in society, and great potential for spiritual unfolding."
